Este trio de chicas, formado por Carnie y Wendy (hijas de Brian Wilson, componente de “The Beach Boys”) y Chynna Philips (hija de John y Michelle Philips del grupo “The Mamas And The Papas”), tuvieron su apogeo con el álbum debut en el año 1990, “Wilson Philips”.
Con este álbum vendieron 10 millones de copias en todo el mundo. Obtuvieron cuatro nominaciones a los Grammy, dos nominaciones a los American Music Awards y una nominación a los premios Billboard.
Gracias al primer single “Hold On”, fueron conocidas en todo el mundo y consiguieron ser número 1, al igual que con los siguientes singles “Release Me” y “You’re in love“.
Con su siguiente álbum de 1992, “Shadows and light”, no lograron mucho éxito, y se separaron en 1993.
Chynna Phillips publicó un álbum en solitario en 1995, “Naked and Sacred”, y se casó con el actor William Baldwin.
Las hermanas Wilson lanzaron en 1993 un álbum de canciones navideñas y un otro titulado “The Wilsons” en 1997. Carnie también probó suerte en la televisión y condujo un programa de tertulias, siendo también famosa por haberse hecho una operación en el estómago en 1999 con la intención de adelgazar, siendo retransmitida por Internet. La operación tuvo tal éxito, que en Junio del 2003, Carnie posó para la revista Playboy con el titular: «Nunca estuve tan caliente como ahora en mi vida».
Un álbum de grandes éxitos se publicó en el año 2000, aunque el grupo no se reunió de nuevo para promocionarlo.
El 29 de Marzo del 2001, se reunieron para interpretar el tema de los Beach Boys, “You’re So Good To Me”, como tributo a Brian Wilson que se celebró en Nueva York. Chynna Phillips dedicó en especial la actuación a su padre John Phillips, quien había muerto unos días antes.
En el 2004 se volvieron a reunir para grabar un tercer disco llamado “California”, lleno de versiones, y lanzaron el single “Go Your Own Way”, un tema original de Fleetwood Mac, con el que pasaron desapercibidas.
Carnie y Wendy anunciaron en el año 2007, que volverían al escenario musical como “The Wilsons”, abriendo incluso un sitio web donde colgaron algunas fechas con sus actuaciones.
